Please observe the terms of the Content Policy. Additionally, please do not post confidential or sensitive personal information on this website. Because most of the membership information in the user profile is optional, users are welcome to withhold any information they prefer to keep to themselves. On the other hand, most of the information entered in a user profile (except the email address, which stays private) will be available to the rest of the user community and to the public, so only post what you want others to see.
The owners, operators, and administrators of this web site will not sell any user information for commercial purposes, nor will they distribute said information elsewhere. At no point will users be asked to provide detailed financial information such as credit or savings account numbers, and any such inquiries appearing to originate from this site should be immediately reported to the site administrator.
This site does use Google AdSense, but only because it was the only way to install a Google search utility. The upshot of this is that Google does attempt to keep track of the general sorts of places its users visit in an effort to develop more "targeted advertisements," so be careful when using the Google search utility. Google also tracks general site traffic for us, but this does not include any personal or detailed information.
In an (unsuccessful to date) effort to offset some of this site's operating costs, we tend to link references to books to a referral program with Amazon. This program does not pass any personal information on to Amazon, just the identity of the site that a visitor came from. Moreover, Amazon does not provide any information to us about who you are, what you purchased, or where you went from there. In fact, Amazon doesn't tell us much at all. Note that if you are using the Ad Block Plus plug-in for Firefox, the default filters will block some of the book recommendations (e.g. the ones that use iframe). You can add an exception if you want, but we leave that decision up to you.
