Basic Shorthand Terms

Printer-friendly version

This document lists basic speed words for shorthand notation. A brief list of single-letter terms is included, as is a list of modifiers that change the forms of the shorthand terms. Terms are listed alphabetically, first by shorthand and then by the full word. These lists are drawn largely from the bank of Dutton Speedwords, which was originally built to serve both as a shorthand language and a constructed universal language, listed in the excellent volume, Mind Performance Hacks, written by Ron Hale-Evans and published by O'Reilly Media, Inc. For more detailed instructions on the use of speed words, I recommend this text or some of the many resources available on the World Wide Web.
I generated the list in LaTeX and published it as both an HTML and a PDF file. To view the index online, select the "Online Version" below. If you would rather download a PDF version, select the alternate link, "Printable Version".
